Sales Director
Reports To: Vice President
​Full Time, Exempt, In-Person
The Sales Director at Indianhead Food Service Distributors (IFD) is a pivotal executive leadership role charged with driving top-line growth, market competitiveness, and operational excellence across all Customer segments. The ideal candidate brings a dynamic blend of industry ability, strategic foresight, commercial acumen, and the ability to unite cross-functional teams in pursuit of aggressive growth and innovation
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plan, develop, and manage all IFD sales departments to meet or exceed company goals for sales volume and profitability.
2. Provide visionary leadership over Contract Schools and Corrections support and retention while reimagining the performance structure of Street Sales, Chem/Bev, and Retail development.
3. Develop and execute current and long-range sales and marketing strategies that drive sustainable growth, profitability, and market expansion across all sales verticals.
4. Preparation and accountability for the annual sales budget by forecasting sales volume and revenue based on historical data, market trends, and Customer development.
5. Create annual payroll budget for sales and administrative employees’ factoring in potential changes and fluctuations.
6. Monitor market trends, Customer needs, and competitor activity to position IFD as a market leader.
7. Leverage CRM, digital tools, and analytics to enable data-driven forecasting, campaign targeting, and pipeline transparency.
8. Partner with finance and operations to oversee pricing strategy, margin analysis, and revenue modeling.
9. In coordination with street sales leadership team develop, redesign and watch the effectiveness of the DSR (District Sales Representative) sales model—enhancing territory alignment, route productivity, and Customer segmentation strategies.
10. Support the marketing organization to align with company priorities, brand strategy, and Customer engagement initiatives.
11. Build and mentor a high-performing sales organization with an emphasis on accountability, innovation, and purposeful culture.
12. Find opportunities to streamline processes, end inefficiencies, and drive cross-departmental collaboration to maximize operational agility.
​13. Represent the company in community and industry settings for the purpose of promoting good corporate relations.
14. Represent IFD at key Customer engagements, trade events, and industry forums to enhance brand visibility and strategic relationships.
15. Perform other job-related duties as needed or directed
PERFORMANCE MEASURES:
1. Sales Revenue: The total income generated from sales, a core metric for evaluating overall success.
2. Sales Growth Rate: The percentage increase in sales over a specific period, showing business expansion.
3. Profit Margin: The percentage of revenue that turns into profit after accounting for costs.
4. Customer Retention Rate: The percentage of Customers that continue to do business with the company over a period.
5. Forecast Accuracy: How closely the sales predictions align with actual results, a measure of strategic planning ability.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in a related field or 10 years sales experience, and 7 years leading a B2B sales team in a professional sales environment with success. Strong financial and analytical skills with experience in P&L management. Proven history of managing multi-channel sales teams and driving revenue growth.
Preferred: Deep understanding of institutional and street-level food service sales models.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
2. Proficient with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), BI platforms, and marketing automation technologies.
3. Robust performance management capabilities with direct reports.
4. Ability to successfully engage and lead individual and team discussions and meetings.
5. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, Customers, and the public.
​6. Ability to apply all relevant policies in a consistent, prompt and objective manner.
7. Solid analytical critical thinking skills, including familiarity with analyzing reports & deriving insights from data.
8. Strong financial acumen and ability to thoughtfully plan and execute business plans.
9. Proficient in Microsoft Applications Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
10. Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to execute multiple initiatives.
11. Initiative-taking, self-directed, with the ability to structure a weekly schedule to be successful.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is generally performed in a typical interior office environment. Normal hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and may vary depending on needs of the business, special projects, etc. Business casual to professional attire as outlined by company policy.
